Police tracked down John Patrick Violette, 37, in a Holiday Inn hotel room near the U.S. Capitol, the report said. He faces murder charges.

"It was basically a follow-the-money-type thing ... through his credit cards," Clayton, N.C., police Sgt. S.P. Lapsley told the News & Observer. "We tracked him to the hotel room that he had taken with his credit cards."

Police said "an edged weapon" had been found. No more details, including any motive, were released.

Neighbor B.J. Woodall told the newspaper he felt uneasy Friday when he saw John Violette speeding into the neighborhood in his station wagon.

"His face was cringing. He looked like he was disturbed about something," and talking angrily into his cell phone as he approached his home, Woodall told the newspaper.
