Saddam's half-brother, judge to be hanged

BAGHDAD, Jan. 3 (UPI) -- Saddam Hussein's half-brother and a former Iraqi chief judge sentenced to hang for crimes against humanity were expected to be executed at dawn in Baghdad.

Iraqi television Wednesday said former government intelligence head, Barzan Ibrahim al-Tikriti, Saddam's half-brother, and Awad Hamed al-Bandar would be hanged Thursday.

Al-Bandar was the former chief justice of Iraq's Revolutionary Court.

The Iraqi government executed former Iraqi leader Saddam Hussein early Saturday, four days after the defendants' appeal was denied. They had been convicted Nov. 5 of killing 148 Shiites in Dujail in 1982 after an assassination attempt on Saddam.
