BAGHDAD, Dec. 31 (UPI) -- Immediately following the execution of former dictator Saddam Hussein, the news spread throughout Iraq by means of phone messages, a report says.

The Kuwait News Agency said on Sunday, news of Saddam's death was the featured news in dozens of phone messages that also included an eyewitness account of the former dictator's last moments.

These messages also revealed that another individual at the hanging began chanting "Moqtada, Moqtada, Moqtada" for Iraqi Shiite cleric Moqtada Al-Sadr, whom Saddam had persecuted during his reign, the report said.

While other phone messages contained a litany of curses aimed at Saddam, several others merely offered verbal renditions of passages from the holy Koran.

KUNA said that yet another message revealed that immediately following Saddam's execution, the voice of an alleged doctor was heard telling others to leave the body hanging to ensure success.
