INDIANAPOLIS, Dec. 31 (UPI) -- A 3-year-old boy was found running on the interstate in Indiana and was saved by what Troy Crady figures was a guardian angel.

Crady told the Indianapolis Star how he'd been speeding by Saturday morning in a 1-ton flatbed truck, unaware of the presence of the child, Damon Dyer. Crady said he shuttered to think of what could have happened if he had hit the boy.

Crady, of Indianapolis, said hitting the boy would have destroyed his life.

But Damon was spared in a few tense seconds, when at least a half dozen cars and a large truck reportedly swerved into other lanes to avoid hitting Damon, who was unattended and wearing only a diaper and a T-shirt.

The incident led to the arrest of the boy's mother on two charges of child neglect after police found she was unaware the child had gotten out of the apartment. The second charge came after police found a second child eating spaghetti off the floor, the Star reported.

Officers reported finding trash in the apartment and feces on the walls.
