Iran recasts report on U.S. jet
Friday, October 10
Former Chief of Staff Dan Shomron criticized the performance of Israel's top military leaders in a number of areas, Haaretz reported. But he did not call for dismissals or resignations.
Dan Halutz, the current chief of staff, is expected to convene a two-day conference Monday to discuss the findings in Shomron's report and others.
Shomron found that the IDF was slow to respond to the kidnapping of two soldiers, slow to declare war on Hezbollah and slow to seek a call-up of reservists. He said Halutz did not work to convince civilian officials that a call-up was needed.
The IDF also failed to recognize the danger of attacks on northern Israel by Katyusha rockets, he said.
