DENVER, Dec. 29 (UPI) -- Colorado residents and travelers were battling Friday against a fresh snowstorm as Southern California dealt with strong winds and fire dangers.
More than 200 flights were canceled Thursday and more were expected Friday at Denver International Airport, with airline officials saying it could take two days to reroute displaced passengers, the Rocky Mountain News reported Friday.
However, airline officials said the delays were not on level with those caused by the pre-Christmas blizzard.
"Our planes are not as full as they were before Christmas," United spokeswoman Robin Urbanski told the newspaper. "And we saw a lot of people who changed their travel plans and left this morning," which helped to free up seats on other flights.
The Denver Post reported that snowfall could reach 30 inches.
In Southern California, powerful winds left thousands of homes without power, caused major roads to close and lowered the humidity to a level considered a "red flag" fire danger.
Stuart Seto, a weather specialist for the National Weather Service, said the winds were expected to continue until at least midday Friday.
