SAINT-DENIS, France, Dec. 29 (UPI) -- A 19-year-old woman was trapped in an elevator in a Paris suburb for three days, but did not sound the alarm.
The woman, identified only as Safiatou, was discovered by an elevator repairman after her father contacted the building superintendent 3 days earlier, Le Figaro reported. The repairman had been working on the elevator, but had not heard an alarm and did not hear any cries for help until he returned three days later.
Safiatou's last name was not released, Le Figaro said.
The young woman was alive but dehydrated when a repairman found her. She was also confused and disoriented, the newspaper said, and no one knows why she did not sound the elevator's alarm.
Police are investigating the cause of the accident and attempting to determine if someone heard her cries and failed to act, an offense punishable by a 75,000 euro fine and five years in prison.
