Man foiled in Aeroflot hijacking attempt

PRAGUE, Czech Republic, Dec. 28 (UPI) -- A Russian Aeroflot flight from Moscow to Geneva made an emergency landing in Prague Thursday after passengers subdued a would-be hijacker.

The Itar-Tass news agency said an unidentified man who was drunk picked a fight with two other passengers, threatened the crew and demanded the aircraft alter its course.

The aircraft was swarmed by Czech security forces when it rolled to a stop, and the man was taken into custody, an air security official told the Novosti news agency.

Prague Police Chief Vladislav Gusak was quoted on the Czech novinky.cz news Web site as saying the passengers prevented the man from hurting the crew.

More than 100 passengers aboard the A-320 aircraft were being double-checked by security staff and the plane was being inspected before being allowed to continue to Geneva, the report said.
