NEW YORK, Dec. 28 (UPI) -- Undercover police arrested three men who allegedly were selling guns and drugs at the New York hotel where real estate mogul Leona Helmsley resides.
Representing the end to a six-month undercover operation, The New York Times said police arrested two employees of the Park Lane Hotel, that Helmsley also owns, who were allegedly using the locale to sell their illegal wares.
In addition to the arrest of one of the hotel's night managers and delivery-staff employees, police also arrested the man who allegedly supplied the guns and drugs.
To disrupt the illegal sales ring, police posed as out-of-town guests at the ritzy hotel and allegedly purchased more than a half a pound of narcotics and six guns from the men during their stay, the Times said.
A spokesman for both Helmsley and her hotel chain immediately praised the efforts of the management at the hotel, where nightly rates run from $310 to $480, and offered shock at the audacity of the crime.
