AUSTIN, Texas, Dec. 24 (UPI) -- Police in Austin, Texas, say Jack Lowry, the editor of Texas Highways magazine, killed himself last week by setting his home on fire.
Described by his employees as "the best boss," Lowry was named as the likely person who started the fire that claimed his life and nearly that of his wife, Dawn, the Austin (Texas) American-Statesman reported.
Police investigators surmised that Lowry likely set a closet full of newspapers ablaze and that began the deadly fire Friday night.
"We admired him so much," said Nora McKey, an associate editor with the magazine. "He was the best boss you could ever imagine. I will miss him terribly."
Lowry, who grew up in Venezuela, first became the editor of the Texas Department of Transportation travel magazine back in 1992.
The newspaper said to date, no official cause of death for Lowry has been released by the area medical examiner.
