JERUSALEM, Dec. 24 (UPI) -- Israel's Cabinet Sunday unanimously approved Prime Minister Ehud Olmert's plan to free up $100 million in humanitarian aid for the Palestinian Authority.
The move came a day after Olmert met with P.A. Chairman and Fatah leader Mahmoud Abbas, which Olmert described as "very good," the Jerusalem Post reported.
"It is my intention to have a continuous dialogue in order to promote our political agenda, and this is what we've wanted to do since the beginning of this government," Olmert said. "We plan to release $100 million of tax money for the purpose of humanitarian aid to the Palestinians, who have suffered from the failed management of Hamas, an organization which has decided not to be part of the international community."
However, Hamas government spokesman Ghazi Hamad called the meeting "a waste of time" and said "no results were achieved in discussions with Israel."
The Palestinian government is near bankrupt, as almost all international aid stopped after Hamas won a parliamentary majority early this year. The party and its militant wing refuse to recognize Israel's sovereignty.
