Saudi princess gets home confinement

BOSTON, Dec. 22 (UPI) -- A Saudi princess has been sentenced to six month's home confinement in Massachusetts for underpaying and exploiting two servants from Indonesia.

Hana Al Jader's sentence also includes paying $207,000 in restitution to the two servants, a $40,000 fine, performing 100 hours of community service and forfeiting a house in Arlington, the Boston Globe reported. She will be deported once she has spent a year under house arrest in Winchester.

The princess's husband, Mohammed Al Saud, was seriously injured in a car crash 16 years ago, shortly after the birth of their sixth child. In a letter to the judge, she described bringing him to the United States for treatment and providing the care he needs while also taking care of their children.

"I am not a perfect person," she said.

U.S. District Judge Reginald Lindsay said that he agreed with prosecutors that people who might exploit immigrants should be encouraged not to break the law. But he also said he sympathized with Jader's responsibilities and with her care for her husband.

Jader, who was originally charged with domestic servitude, pleaded guilty harboring illegal aliens.
