UK hooker-slay suspect said to cross-dress

IPSWICH, England, Dec. 20 (UPI) -- Prostitutes knew the prime suspect in Britain's Suffolk Strangler killings as a cross-dresser, a former prostitute said Wednesday.

"He was very strange and used to scare us," "Tina," 45, said of Steve Wright, 48, the second suspect arrested in the killings of five prostitutes whose naked bodies were found this month around Ipswich.

Wright is said to have regularly worn high heels, a skirt and a wig when he went looking for vice girls while he worked in Norwich, 45 miles north of Ipswich, London's Daily Mail reports.

The forklift truck driver -- who was allegedly once a steward on the Queen Elizabeth II cruise ship -- was arrested Tuesday at his apartment in Ipswich.

Wright was arrested on DNA evidence found in a wooded area where the last three victims were dumped, the Mail says.
