Interpol probing England sex murders

IPSWICH, England, Dec. 17 (UPI) -- Interpol has joined the probe of five prostitute slayings around Ipswich, England, amid suspicions the killer fled abroad, it was reported Sunday.

Investigators also revealed the slayer may have killed the women with his bare hands, London's Observer reported Sunday.

Police Saturday released video images of what is thought to be one of the last sightings of victim Anneli Alderton, who was three months pregnant, on a train Dec. 3. Her naked body was found in the woods outside Ipswich seven days later.

Meanwhile, an adviser to Britain's Home Secretary says Prime Minister Tony Blair blocked moves to create "managed areas" for prostitutes because he feared "hostile headlines."

Writing in The Observer, Katharine Raymond says Blair "was terrified" of the media response to David Blunkett's proposal to create special "red light" districts for prostitutes similar to those on mainland Europe.

Experts said such areas would mean sex workers, such as the five women killed around Ipswich, would be at less risk of attack.
