Celebrity dolphin found dismembered

MARYPORT, England, Dec. 16 (UPI) -- Experts say the dismembered dolphin found in trash bags on an English beach was the same animal that became a tourist attraction earlier this year.

The Zoological Society of London identified the animal as Marra, who had to be shepherded out of a marina in Maryport, Cumbria, earlier this year, The Daily Mail reported. No cause of death could be determined because someone had removed the dolphin's internal organs.

The remains turned up on Skinburness Beach. The dolphin's jaw had also been removed, possibly as a souvenir or trophy.

Local officials were trying to determine if trash contractors left the dolphin's remains on the beach overnight.
