LONDON, Dec. 15 (UPI) -- Prince William, heir to the British throne, and his younger brother, Prince Harry, have asked for an end to conspiracy speculation about their mother's death.
A report released Thursday on a three-year investigation into the car crash that killed Princess Diana and Dodi Fayed -- son of Egyptian businessman Mohammed al-Fayed -- concluded that the driver of their Mercedes was drunk. The report by John Stevens, a former head of the Metropolitan Police, found no evidence of any plot to kill the princess and suggested she would have survived if she had been wearing a seat belt.
"Prince William and Prince Harry are extremely grateful to Lord Stevens and his team for the thoroughness and professionalism they have shown during their investigation, and trust that these conclusive findings will end the speculation surrounding the death of their mother Diana, Princess of Wales," the two princes said in a statement released by the office of Prince Charles.
Mohammed al-Fayed released a statement calling the report "garbage" and asking for an independent investigation, The Scotsman reported.
