SUVA, Australia, Dec. 11 (UPI) -- Fijian military coup leader Commodore Frank Bainimarama Monday criticized Australia for interference in Fiji's affairs.
Bainimarama, addressing a news conference, accused Australian Foreign Minister Alexander Downer of inciting the people of Fiji to violence.
Downer has called on Fijians to resist the leaders of last week's coup, but Bainimarama said such statements incite people to action and destroy "the peace Fiji is enjoying." He called on Downer to keep out of Fijian affairs.
Meanwhile a court in Suva found former Fijian Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka not guilty of inciting a mutiny in 2000.
Rabuka staged Fifi's first military coup in 1987 and later ruled as Prime Minister for eight years.
He had been accused of attempting to incite a mutinous act in July and November 2000 and Bainimarama previously had demanded Rabuka and others involved in former coups be kept in jail.
