Poll: Almost half in U.S. creationist
WASHINGTON, Dec. 8 (UPI) -- Finding that being a doctor and a U.S. senator don't always mix, Bill Frist, R-Tenn., once a Washington up-and-comer, has bid farewell to Congress.
Frist said his official good bye on Thursday, leaving along with the GOP majority that gave way to Democratic rule in the November elections.
After four years as the Senate majority leader, Frist, a heart and lung surgeon, appears to have had enough of Washington for now, his presidential hopes dashed by what the New York Times called questionable political calculations and legislative missteps.
"In the doctor-patient relationship, you don't take someone's heart out and put another one back in without 100 percent trust," Frist told the Times. "But, trust around here is very rare."
He said he does not believe he is through with politics.
