Chicago Fire Department spokesman Larry Langford told the Chicago Sun-Times the blaze started around 10 p.m. Thursday night in a 2 1/2-story frame house in the Marquette Park neighborhood.
The blaze was extinguished by before 11 p.m., Langford said, and the cause was not immediately determined.
The home had only one, non-working, smoke detector located in the basement.
