Court refuses to hear illegal search cases

WASHINGTON, Nov. 28 (UPI) -- The U.S. Supreme Court declined to hear two cases involving the limits of the Fourth Amendment protection against unreasonable search and seizure.

In Illinois vs. Stoup, state courts ruled that police cannot ask about illegal drugs during a traffic stop unless they have some reason to suspect drugs in a car, Scotusblog reported.

Florida courts have found in Florida vs. Rabb that police performed an illegal search when they used a drug-sniffing dog outside a home in an effort to find drugs stashed inside.

The high court's refusal leaves those cases as precedent in the two states.
