Aryan Brotherhood 3 get life terms

SANTA ANA, Calif., Nov. 22 (UPI) -- A federal judge in California sentenced three leaders of the Aryan Brotherhood to multiple life sentences for ordering homicides from their prison cells.

U.S. District Judge David Carter imposed four consecutive life sentences on Barry "The Baron" Mills, the brotherhood's chief, the Orange County Register reported. Tyler "The Hulk" Bingham and Edgar "The Snail" Hevle each received three consecutive sentences.

Sentencing was delayed for a fourth defendant convicted with them because he is undergoing surgery.

Carter agreed with federal prosecutors that U.S. Attorney General Alberto Gonzales should order restrictions on the three men's communications within prison. Prosecutors dropped a motion to have the judge order the restrictions, saying such a condition would be easier to appeal.

"This court has heard about so many assaults, so many murders and cyanide being smuggled in. It's almost incomprehensible," Carter said.

The three defendants showed little emotion during the sentencing. Hevle said, "Bye," as the other two men were led out of the courtroom, the newspaper said.
