Gun in lake may be linked to Palme killing

STOCKHOLM, Sweden, Nov. 21 (UPI) -- Police in Sweden say a gun found in a lake may be connected to the still unsolved 1986 assassination of Prime Minister Olof Palme.

The Smith & Wesson revolver was retrieved from the bottom of a lake in Dalarna by divers working for the newspaper Expressen, The Local reported. The newspaper handed the gun to police.

The weapon is believed to have been used in a post office robbery in Mockfjard in 1983. Its connection to the Palme assassination is that the bullets used there matched those found in a postal customer who was shot in the leg during the robbery, The Local said.

The serial number on the gun reportedly matches that used in the Mockfjard robbery.

Palme and his wife were walking home from a movie theater in Stockholm when they were both shot. Lisbet Palme survived, but her husband died on the street.
