Mother accused of killing her 4 children

ELKHART, Ind., Nov. 17 (UPI) -- An injured Elkhart, Ind., mother found with her four dead children has been accused of killing them, a report says.

Angelica Alvarez, 27, was found by her husband lying with the children in the basement of their home, police said. After an interview Thursday, she was arrested, the Elkhart Truth reported.

The four children -- Jennifer Lopez, 8; Gonzalo Lopez, 6; Daniel Valdez, 4, and Jessica Valdez, 2 -- died of asphyxiation, autopsies showed. Police said they considered their deaths homicides.

There was no official word on the nature of the mother's injuries but her condition has improved, Detective Capt. Steve Mock told the newspaper.
