BEIJING, Nov. 15 (UPI) -- A top Chinese Communist adviser has urged religious groups to help in the country's effort to promote social harmony.

Jia Qinglin, chairman of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference, said the religious groups should assist the government in the handling of relations between religious and non-religious people, and people of different religious beliefs, reports Xinhua news agency.

Speaking to a meeting of the religious group in Beijing, Jia said China's social and economic development are at a crucial stage and that building a harmonious society would require the joint efforts of the entire nation.
