MEXICO CITY, Nov. 9 (UPI) -- California Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger, displaying the bipartisan spirit that won him a second term, Thursday welcomed "new ideas and new blood" in Congress.
At a news conference in Mexico City, where he visited President Vicente Fox and touted California produce, Schwarzenegger said he believes the results of Tuesday's election will help end paralysis in Washington, the Los Angeles Times reported.
"I think it's good that there are new ideas and new blood, because Washington was stuck," the governor said. "They could not move forward. Not much was accomplished. I think it was terrible."
After the news conference, Adam Mendelsohn, Schwarzenegger's communications director, said the Republican governor is not necessarily pleased that Democrats control both houses of Congress.
A year ago, Schwarzenegger seemed destined to be a one-term governor. But he restored his popularity in California by making peace with Democrats in the Legislature and backing many of their key issues, the newspaper said.
