Cyclist with broken leg crawls up hill

ANAHEIM, Calif., Nov. 8 (UPI) -- A 47-year-old man who crashed his motorcycle in Southern California's Cleveland National Forest crawled 75 feet up a remote hill with a broken leg.

Two motorcycle riders found the unidentified man lying on the hillside, about 15 feet from the top, Wednesday. He had spent the night stranded, the Orange County Register reported.

They gave him water and first aid, said Capt. Stephen Miller of the Orange County Fire Authority.

With no food or water and no cell phone reception, the man starting inching up the embankment, dragging his broken right leg behind, Miller said.

"He kept crawling and crawling but he just couldn't make it to the top," he said.

It took firefighters about 20 minutes to hike to the man, who was about a mile from the forest entrance.

"He's really lucky that someone found him," Miller said. "With this heat and no cell phone signal, he could have been there for several days."
