NEW YORK, Nov. 6 (UPI) -- U.S. Army recruiters in three northeastern states have been caught on undercover news videotape lying to potential enlistees about the war in Iraq being over.

WABC-TV, New York, sent students wearing hidden video cameras into recruiting stations in New York, New Jersey and Connecticut and showed the evidence to Col. Robert Manning, who is in charge of U.S. Army recruiting for the entire Northeast.

He watched one videotape where a recruiter told a student: "We're not at war. War ended a long time ago."

Manning expressed disappointment with the remark.

"We are a nation and Army at war still," he told ABC News. "It's hard to believe some of things they are telling prospective applicants."

Another recruiter told a student no one was being sent to Iraq and the Army was actually starting to bring people back. Yet another told a student posing as a drug addict it would be no problem and "helped him cheat to sign up," the report said.
