PURI, India, Nov. 4 (UPI) -- About 4,000 pilgrims stampeded into a temple in Puri, India, Saturday killing four and injuring at least 20 others, it was reported.
The crowd of primarily elderly pilgrims was gathered at the Sri Jagannath Temple for a ritual performed as part of a Hindu festival, the Press Trust of India said.

When the doors opened, the crowd surged forward, causing some people in front to fall and creating the stampede.
In January 2005, 265 pilgrims were killed in a stampede near a temple in the western state of Maharashtra.
