Republicans pull funds from Ohio race

COLUMBUS, Ohio, Oct. 30 (UPI) -- The Republican National Committee has said it will no longer fund TV ads to help Sen. Mike DeWine defend his Ohio seat.

The move leaves DeWine, who was trailing challenger Sherrod Brown by 14 points two weeks ago, to rely on outside funds for the final stretch of the campaign, CBS News reported Monday.

CBS said DeWine currently holds nearly three times the funds available to his Democratic opponent, and money is still flowing in for both candidates.

In one of the most-watched races in the U.S. midterm elections, DeWine and Brown have saturated the airwaves with political ads to the point where some wonder if there would even be airtime left for the candidates to buy.

"Literally, they were talking a couple of weeks ago that it was almost impossible to buy additional airtime on the three network affiliates, the local affiliates here," said Herb Asher, a political science professor at Ohio State University. "All the time was bought up."
