Silent march recalls Paris riots

PARIS, Oct. 27 (UPI) -- About 500 people marched silently through the Paris suburbs on the anniversary of riots that shook France this time last year.

The march was in honor of two youths whose deaths sparked the three weeks of violence. During the nightly rioting, more than 10,000 cars and 300 buildings were set afire, the BBC said.

The crowd in Clichy-sous-Bois held a banner saying the young victims had "died for nothing." The boys were electrocuted at a power station during what some said was a police chase.

A monument to the boys, Bouna Traore and Zyed Benna, was unveiled and the mayor appealed for calm.
