Iran cleric warns of plots in Iraq

TEHRAN, Oct. 25 (UPI) -- Iran's supreme Shiite leader has urged Iraq's religious, political, ethnic and other leaders to remain united and vigilant against the "trap of the enemy."

Ayatollah Seyed Ali Khamenei made his plea in an address Tuesday to ambassadors of Islamic states in Tehran and others on Eid-ul-Fitr festival, marking end of the holy month of Ramadan, reports Iran's official Islamic Republic News Agency.

The cleric said the reason for the "recent plots in Iraq" is the emergence of a "popular government in the country contrary to the occupiers' wishes," IRNA reported but gave no details.

It quoted the ayatollah as saying, "The outstanding cultural, religious, political, social, popular and ethnic figures in Iraq should maintain unity and vigilance and be careful not to fall in trap of the enemy."
