Tropical Storm Paul may hit Mexico

MIAMI, Oct. 21 (UPI) -- A new tropical storm formed in the eastern Pacific Saturday, with forecasters predicting it would become a hurricane by the time it hits Mexico.

At 2 p.m. PDT, Tropical Storm Paul was heading west away from the coast. The storm was expected to veer to the north and then east, hitting Baja California Wednesday.

Forecasters at the National Hurricane Center said different models give widely varying predictions for Paul's future. One shows the storm becoming a major hurricane by the time it hits Mexico. Another shows Paul dissipating before it hits land.

Splitting the difference, the NHC said Paul is likely to make landfall as a modest Category One hurricane.
