British prince helps gain stay for killer

ISLAMABAD, Pakistan, Oct. 20 (UPI) -- The execution of a British prisoner in Pakistan has been deferred after Prince Charles intervened, a report says.

It was the fourth stay for Mirza Tahir Hussain, 36, a convicted murderer scheduled to be put to death on Nov. 1.

The prince was said to have intervened after hearing that Hussain had been sentenced to death by a religious court after he was cleared by Pakistan's High Court, the Times of London said.

Meanwhile, Pakistani President Pervez Musharraf sought legal advice about a possible pardon for the former British soldier.
