SANTIAGO, Chile, Oct. 18 (UPI) -- Chilean police clashed with students Wednesday in the capital, Santiago, during demonstrations calling for education reform, El Mercurio reported online.
Officers clad in riot gear reportedly used water cannons to subdue the protesters, who were throwing rocks at police. Some 100 demonstrators were arrested.

Students are demanding reforms including waiving of fees for college entrance exams. The protesters said President Michelle Bachelet was slow in implementing the reforms.
The demonstrations were reminiscent of clashes between police and students in May and June, when students first made their demands.
