BRUSSELS, Oct. 17 (UPI) -- A logo designed by a young Pole showing EU members remaining together despite their difference will be used to mark European Union's 50th anniversary.
The winning design was submitted by Szymon Skrzypczak, a 23-year-old student at the Polish Academy of Fine Arts, reports the EU Observer. It shows the word "together" in letters of different fonts and colors and will be translated in the languages of each member state.
The logo was unveiled by EU Communication Commissioner Margot Wallstrom and European Parliament Vice President Alejo Vidal-Quadras.
The anniversary will be observed with festivities next year, marking the 50th year of the 1957 Treaty of Rome that laid the basis for the founding of EU.
Skrzypczak told the Observer the broad range of fonts and colors depicts the union's cultural diversity, while the word "together" speaks for itself.
"There are a lot of different countries in the EU -- but from these differences, we can still coexist in harmony," he said.
Skrzypczak's design was chosen from more than 1,700 entries.
