Explosives in home, police say

PORTAGE, Ind., Oct. 12 (UPI) -- An Indiana man who was charged seven years ago with bombing mailboxes and a portable toilet now has been charged with stockpiling explosives.

Chris William Allen of Portage was arrested after his estranged wife called police and reported finding chemicals, explosives and order confirmations from a Virginia fireworks company, the Gary Post-Tribune reported. In a search of the home, investigators alleged they found explosives and bomb-making materials and components in the basement, a detached garage and a barn.

Allen's wife obtained a restraining order in September, claiming he had abused her. He moved in with his parents and was arrested at their home.

A judge set bail at $50,000.

In 1999, Allen was charged with blowing up four mail boxes and a portable toilet as well as with driving while intoxicated. He pleaded guilty in a deal that gave him a probationary sentence.
