U.N. peacekeepers sought for Sudan

KHARTOUM, Sudan, Oct. 12 (UPI) -- An international think tank has recommended added pressure to force Sudan to permit a U.N. peacekeeping mission into the troubled area.

The International Crisis Group proposed targeted sanctions against key government figures and designating the western region of Darfur a no-fly zone.

A U.N. Security Council resolution on Aug. 31, called for a 20,000-strong peacekeeping force in Darfur. The Sudanese government, however, rejected the idea.
