EU issues last warning on tobacco ads

PRAGUE, Czech Republic, Oct. 12 (UPI) -- The Czech Republic, Hungary and Spain have been given their last warning from the European Commission to stop allowing the advertising of tobacco products.

The last warning came after the three countries failed to comply with the EU demands to ban tobacco ads, Radio Prague reported Thursday.

Italy is also being taken to the European Court of Justice after the Rome government failed to harmonize its tobacco advertising legislation with the EU standards.

The Czech Republic could also be taken to the court if it is not successful in explaining why Prague is not following the EU demands, the radio said.
