BAGHDAD, Oct. 11 (UPI) -- A mortar attack by Iraqi militia was responsible for a fire at an ammunition depot at a U.S. base in southern Baghdad, U.S. military officials said Wednesday.

"Intelligence indicates that civilians aligned with a militia organization were responsible for last night's mortar attack," spokesman Army Lt. Col. Jonathan Withington said.

No one was reported injured in the Tuesday night fire.

Soldiers and base employees were moved to secure buildings on the base, military officials said.

The attack does not affect Baghdad security operations, they said.
