Quake raises fear of new N. Korea test

TOKYO, Oct. 10 (UPI) -- An earthquake that hit Japan Wednesday morning was at first feared to be another North Korean nuclear test.

The quake, measuring 6.0 on the Richter scale, was centered in the Tohoku region, a mountainous area in the northern part of Honshu.

Prime Minister Shinzo Abe said that there was no evidence of seismic tremors from North Korea, Kyodo News Service reported. Pentagon and White House spokesmen in Washington said the same thing.

There were no reports of casualties or of a tsunami from the earthquake.
