NICKEL MINES, Pa., Oct. 5 (UPI) -- Two relatives of a man who shot 10 girls in a Nickel Mines, Pa., Amish schoolhouse said he never molested them.
Charles Carl Roberts IV, who shot himself after shooting 10 girls, killing five, told his wife shortly before the attack that he had molested two female relatives 20 years ago when they were between 3 and 5 years old. He said in a suicide note that he had been dreaming of reliving the acts.
However, police said Roberts' relatives have denied the claim, further complicating the investigation into the killer's motive and mental state at the time of the attack, the Newark (N.J.) Star-Ledger reported Thursday.
"Both of them have no recollection of being sexually assaulted by Roberts," Trooper Linette Quinn said. "They were absolutely sure they had no sexual contact."
Quinn said police had not linked Roberts to any other sexual assaults and found he had never mentioned his claims to family members, confidants or spiritual advisers.
