NICKEL MINES, Pa., Oct. 3 (UPI) -- The man who shot 10 girls at a Nickel Mines, Pa., Amish school told his wife before the attacks he had molested two children 20 years ago.
State Police Commissioner Jeffrey Miller said Charles Carl Roberts IV told his wife in a phone call shortly before killing five girls and injuring five others Monday he had molested two young family members two decades ago, the Pittsburgh Post Gazette reported Tuesday.
However, Miller said police have been unable to find evidence the molestations occurred.
Roberts also left notes saying he was haunted by the death of his infant daughter, Elise, in 1997.
"He was troubled by the loss of Elise. It was painful for him, not seeing her grow up. He was angry at God for taking Elise. He said it changed his life forever," Miller said.
Miller also released the names of the five girls killed by Roberts: Naomi Rose Ebersol, 7; Anna Mae Stoltzfus, 12; Marian Fisher, 13; and sisters Mary Liz Miller, 8, and Lina Miller, 7.
