New video shows Sept. 11 hijackers joking

LONDON, Oct. 1 (UPI) -- A videotape shows the ringleader of the Sept. 11 terrorist hijackings reading his "martyrdom" will at an al-Qaida training camp in Afghanistan.

The tape obtained by the Times of London also shows Mohammed Atta -- who flew American Airlines Flight 11 into the north tower of New York's World Trade Center -- laughing and joking with hijacker Ziad Jarrah, who piloted United Flight 93, which crashed in Pennsylvania.

The two men then appear to read their wills to the camera.

The date on the tape posted Sunday on the Times Web site was Jan. 18, 2000 -- months before the men enrolled at flying schools in the United States.

The newspaper said U.S. and al-Qaida sources had verified the authenticity of the tape, which it acquired "through a previously tested channel."

The tape has no soundtrack and the newspaper said U.S. officials had tried without success to decipher what was said.

In a separate segment, the tape shows al-Qaida leader Osama bin Laden addressing about 100 of his followers.
