N. Korea's Kim Jong-Il cozies up to China

SEOUL, Sept. 30 (UPI) -- North Korea's Kim Jong-Il has reportedly been taking measures to firm up his relationship with key ally, China.

South Korea's Yonhap news service reported Saturday Kim sent a letter to Chinese President Hu Jintao congratulating him on the anniversary of the establishment of Communist China and pledging North Korea's continued friendship.

The letter was sent amid chilling relations centered on international objections to North Korea's nuclear program.

The report also noted China's ambassador to North Korea hosted a reception at a Pyongyang hotel Friday night to mark the 57th anniversary of the current Chinese government.
