Suspect's aide guilty in Bombay blasts

BOMBAY, Sept. 18 (UPI) -- A special court in India Monday convicted an accountant and his accomplice in the 1993 series of blasts in Bombay that killed a total of 257 victims.

Asgar Yusuf Mukadam, once an accountant to the prime suspect Tiger Memon who remains at large, and Shahnawaz Abdul Kader Qureshi were found guilty of parking a car filled with RDX explosive near a movie theater, one of several locations in the blasts.

The vehicle exploded killing 10 people and injuring 36, reports the Times of India. The court said Mukadam was driving the car and Qureshi had accompanied him.

Mukadam and Qureshi also were found guilty of conspiracy in other blasts in the city also known as Mumbai for distributing funds for terror acts and stuffing RDX in cars.

The court has already convicted five defendants and more trials are pending.
