CORDOBA, Spain, Sept. 18 (UPI) -- Spanish and British leaders, as well as Gibraltar's first minister, signed a deal Monday ending years of squabbling over the British colony.
British Europe Minister Geoff Hoon, Spanish Foreign Minister Miguel Angel Moratinos and Peter Caruana, Gibraltar's first minister, met in Cordoba, Spain, to hammer out a series of agreements on the future of the Gibraltar territory.
Among the items agreed upon were the decision to open the Gibraltar airports to receive flights from Spain as well as Europe and improving telecommunications, the report said.
Spain ceded the territory to Britain after warfare in 1713, though it still claims it.
