Starbucks sued for discrimination

SEATTLE, Sept. 15 (UPI) -- The U.S. Equal Employment Opportunities Commission has sued Starbucks, claiming that a Seattle outlet discriminated against a woman with psychiatric problems.

Christina Drake worked as a barista for two years, the Seattle Post-Intelligencer said. Managers accommodated her by giving her additional time to study how to make new drinks and allowing her to practice.

But a new manager told her she was not up to the job and fired her.

Lawyers for the EEOC said the agency spent a year investigating the case before concluding that Starbucks had violated the Americans with Disabilities Act. They are seeking $40,000 in lost wages and as much as $300,000 in compensatory and punitive damages.
