At 8 p.m. PDT, Lane's center was 75 miles west-southwest of Manzanillo and 430 miles southeast of Cabo San Lucas in Baja California. The storm was moving northwest at almost 6 mph.

Maximum sustained winds were almost 60 mph, and the National Hurricane Center in Miami said Lane was expected to become a hurricane Wednesday. Tropical storm winds extended up to 140 miles from the center.

While Lane was expected to remain out to sea, parts of the Mexican coast were likely to experience tropical storm conditions.
