WASHINGTON, Sept. 15 (UPI) -- U.S. President George Bush Friday downplayed the level of sectarian violence in Iraq, saying the unity government is working.
"It is the ideological war of the 21st century," Bush told a White House news conference.
Bush called on people to imagine an enemy who takes Iraq's oil resources off the world market as an economic punishment.
Bush said progress in Iraq must be measured by the resilience of the Iraqi people. He said as long as the public supports the unity government: "We'll stay with them. ... It's a vital struggle."
