Missing boy's mother commits suicide

LEESBURG, Fla., Sept. 14 (UPI) -- A central Florida woman whose 2-year-old son is missing committed suicide after doing a television interview and is now considered a suspect in the case.

Sometime around Aug. 26, Trenton Duckett went missing from his mother's home in Leesburg, Fla., and "CNN Headline News" host Nancy Grace asked his mother Melinda Duckett to appear on her show in a bid to raise awareness of her son's disappearance.

Grace asked Duckett specific, pointed questions Thursday about why her answers to police about her whereabouts and activities had been vague and why she had refused to take a lie detector test, the Orlando (Fla.) Sentinel reported.

A day after taping the interview, Duckett killed herself using her grandfather's gun.

Her estranged husband, Joshua Duckett, said he remains troubled by her answers to questions posed by police and reporters but he does not dwell on her.

"My focus is on my son," he told the Sentinel.

Meanwhile, Grace accepted no blame for the suicide.

"I do not feel our show is to blame for what happened to Melinda Duckett," Grace said on the show Monday, adding "Melinda committed suicide before that interview ever aired."
